TEI’s In-House Eyewear: Redbirds
The Eye Institute launched its own line of eyewear in 2019. Our frames are stylish and high-quality, made from high-grade Italian acetate. We have the collection at each practice so stop by one of our locations to check them out!
TEI Owner Dr. Adam Palo named them Red Birds in honor of his late mother, who used to feed the North Carolina state bird, a Cardinal. As they gathered around the feeder, she would always say, “Look at those red birds.”
Sunglasses
Sunglasses aren’t just about style – they’re essential in protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. And sunglasses aren’t just for adults. Studies have shown that 85% of the UV damage done to a person’s eyes occurs before they are 18 years old. We offer many styles of sunglasses, and we can also make prescription lenses for just about any sunglass frame.

Our office can prescribe specialized eyewear to protect your eyes at work or at play. Specialty frames and prescription or non-prescription lenses are available for:
- Sports including basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, football, racquet sports, and hockey
- Work
- Swimming

Lenses for Your Glasses
Frames aren’t the only aspect of your glasses that come with options! Our office offers an array of eyeglass lenses to meet individual vision requirements. During your eye consultation, we’ll talk to you about these options and which ones are best for your prescription and lifestyle.
Some of the available lenses are:
- High Index Lenses are thinner and lighter than ordinary lenses. We recommend these often because they feel far more comfortable, especially in higher prescriptions.
- Progressive Addition Lenses correct for near, middle, and distance vision without the lines of bifocal or trifocal lenses.
- Transitions ® Lenses are clear indoors, but automatically darken when you go outdoors. If you had a poor experience with Transitions ® in the past, fear not! The technology has improved, and these change much faster than they used to.
- Trivex Lenses are our first choice because of their lighter weight and impact resistance.
- Polarized Lenses reduce glare and provide protection from harmful UV rays, perfect for sunglasses.
- Blue-Blocking Lenses are great for monitor and screen protection. If you work in front of a computer or other screen all day, consider adding these to your glasses or get an extra pair. Those who wear them report reduced dry eye and eye fatigue or strain and fewer headaches. The light from monitors also can affect your sleep cycle.
