3 Tips for Protecting your Eyes for Healthy Vision Month
May is Healthy Vision Month, and here at The Eye Institute, we believe that vision health is part of an individual’s overall health management for school, for work, and for life. Being able to see clearly is just as important for a healthy and happy lifestyle as exercise and nutrition.
Make healthy vision a priority this May by scheduling a comprehensive eye exam at your nearest Eye Institute location. Your comprehensive eye exam can tell us a lot about your vision, including if you need glasses or contacts, or any early signs of vision-related diseases.
Here are 3 more ways you can contribute to protecting your eyes and maintaining healthy vision:
- Learn about your family’s history, specifically their eye health history. Your family’s conditions can tell you a lot about your eyes, as many eye diseases are hereditary.
- Eat foods that contribute to a healthy heart; if it’s good for your heart it is good for your eyes. Some of those super-nutritious foods include oily fish such as salmon, leafy greens, and sweet potatoes.
- Wear sunglasses when outdoors. Sunglasses protect our eyes from harmful UV rays. Without proper protection, the damage to our eyes from UV rays can lead to cataracts and macular degeneration.
